What is a domain name?

A domain name is the "address" for your website on the Internet. No two entities can have the same web address.Many times your business name can be your web address, but if the name you desire is already taken, usually something similar can be developed. You should purchase the name you want as a .com and .net. If you are a not-for-profit organization you will want to take advantage of the .org extension. Schools use the .edu ending and governments use .gov, or their state and/or country abbreviation, such as .fl and .us. All the domains that you purchase will load your web page when typed into a web browser. Frequently, when you find a good domain name, it is a good idea to buy the other suffixes with the same name, to avoid other companies using your name.
